Seed Exchange

The 2025 Seed Exchange opens Saturday, March 1!

The Bettendorf Public Library is proud to offer free access to vegetable, herb, and flower seeds. All seeds included in the seed exchange are open-pollinated and non-GMO.

How the Seed Exchange works:

  1. Borrow: Take up to 3 packets per month—no checkout required.
  2. Grow: Plant your seeds according to the directions on the packet.
  3. Return: If comfortable, harvest and donate seeds to the library at the end of the growing season to help build next year's collection. We accept both leftover purchased seeds as well as seeds you have saved yourself. Saved seeds should be labelled with the following information: Plant name, variety, and year saved.

Explore our gardening resources in the library and online.
